"Tara's a fag-hag?" Amber Benson's new movie might be gay, but is it good?

Amber Benson, who captured our hearts as lesbian witch Tara Maclay in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, is once more in the limelight as her new movie has just been released stateside.

In Race You To The Bottom, Benson co-stars as Maggie (the role for which she won best actress honors at L.A.'s Outfest film festival), the best friend of bisexual journalist Nathan(played by Cole Williams).

Despite both being in relationships with other men, the depths of their relationship are explored, and the boundaries of their friendship tested, when Nathan is assigned to write a travel article on romantic hotspots in Napa Valley, and the film studies how their increasingly complex feelings develop.

Ms Benson seems to be carving a niche for herself in playing the straight best friend character in queer romantic comedies, such as Latter Days and the upcoming Kiss The Bride, in which she co-stars with little rich girl extraordinaire, Tori Spelling, and while it's nice to see Amber enjoy continuing success, especially in queer-themed and gay-friendly films, the word is going round that she's the best thing about Race You To The Bottom.

The New York Times bemoans the poor casting, saying that while "Ms. Benson is a lovely actress with a vulnerability that can be extremely touching...she enjoyed more chemistry with Alyson Hannigan on Buffy the Vampire Slayer than she does with Mr. [Cole] Williams."

But hey, when Amber's looking this good, who cares who's in the rest of the movie?

Crispay Soup Chef In Art-Porn Shock!

Everyone remembers Lara Perkins, the Crispay Soup Chef who stole Dana's heart in the first season of The L Word, right ?
With her cute button-nose, sexy strawberry-blonde hair, and way with grilled vegetables, Lauren Lee Smith won our hearts and a whole legion of lesbian fans.

However, the Canadian actress is definitely not shagging girls in her new film Lie With Me.

She plays Leila "a sexually voracious young woman who connects with men through brief physical encounters."
She meets David, played by Six Feet Under's Eric Balfour at a house party and "later, as she has casual sex with a stranger just behind the house, David and his girlfriend mirror her actions in their car. Leila and David's eyes lock as they watch each other having sex with others, a courtship ritual that initiates their own sexual affair." Whoah.

Now, it may be a little disappointing that this is a het romance, but that scene sounds sexy enough to set the screen on fire! Us watching them watching each other...Voyeuristic much?

Apparently the film contains pretty much every kind of sex act imaginable, and the main stars spend about half the film naked and I'm not entirely sure, but a certain amount of the sex in the film is unsimulated.I doubt the majority is real, but Wikipedia seems pretty sure that it contains "unsimulated genital fondling".

Now that just puts me off.I'm by no means a prude, so it is just the fact that I'm used to thinking of Lauren Lee as sweet and rather innocent Lara that makes me feel unconfortable about this film?

I suppose at this point I should apologise for including all those screenshots of such a filth-fest, but I have no excuse, rather than to provide a contrast between the two roles.

Lesbian? This just might turn you straight...

This blog on the internationally famous Sundance Film Festival http://www.imdb.com/features/sundance/2007/blog/ mentions a very bizzare addition to the festival line-up.

Called Teeth, it is about a young woman who is so innocent that she doesn't realise it's not normal to have set of teeth in your vagina.

Doesn't that sound like the most terrifying film ever?

There's more on this mythological condition, apparently know as vagina dentata here on wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vagina_dentata

To make this article more interesting, I decided to do a Google search for an image of vagina dentata. I really, really wish I hadn't.

Whatever Happened To Free Speech?

I've just realised that Natasha Lyonne (http://imdb.com/name/nm0005169/) who played the interesting and cool Jessica in the American Pie movies also had the lead role in the queercore (and fantastic) movie But I'm A Cheerleader, due to this article: http://logo-blogs.com/afterellen/2006/12/18/and-you-thought-she-was-crazy-in-freeway-ii/

It's kind of upsetting to know that she had a drug problem, but at least she's over it now. And there was a warrant for her arrest because she threatened to do unspeakable things to her neighbours dog? I mean, come on. I threatened to kill my friend with a spoon if he messed up my hair again, does that mean that I can be arrested for attempted murder?
