"Tara's a fag-hag?" Amber Benson's new movie might be gay, but is it good?

Amber Benson, who captured our hearts as lesbian witch Tara Maclay in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, is once more in the limelight as her new movie has just been released stateside.

In Race You To The Bottom, Benson co-stars as Maggie (the role for which she won best actress honors at L.A.'s Outfest film festival), the best friend of bisexual journalist Nathan(played by Cole Williams).

Despite both being in relationships with other men, the depths of their relationship are explored, and the boundaries of their friendship tested, when Nathan is assigned to write a travel article on romantic hotspots in Napa Valley, and the film studies how their increasingly complex feelings develop.

Ms Benson seems to be carving a niche for herself in playing the straight best friend character in queer romantic comedies, such as Latter Days and the upcoming Kiss The Bride, in which she co-stars with little rich girl extraordinaire, Tori Spelling, and while it's nice to see Amber enjoy continuing success, especially in queer-themed and gay-friendly films, the word is going round that she's the best thing about Race You To The Bottom.

The New York Times bemoans the poor casting, saying that while "Ms. Benson is a lovely actress with a vulnerability that can be extremely touching...she enjoyed more chemistry with Alyson Hannigan on Buffy the Vampire Slayer than she does with Mr. [Cole] Williams."

But hey, when Amber's looking this good, who cares who's in the rest of the movie?

Lacey Online!

Tammy Lynn Micheals (The L Word's Lacey and Mrs Melissa Etheridge) has her very own blog right here on Blogspot!

http://hollywoodfarmgirl.blogspot.com/

It's mostly written in Haiku form, which is...interesting.

I love how she lists Melissa Etheridge as one of her favourite musicians!

Also, I found this quote from Teen Vogue - Spring 2001, which really backs up Tammy Lynn Micheals' Dykon status:

"It was only the fourth or fifth episode of Popular, and I was in the hair-and-makeup trailer, going over my lines for the next scene."You have to lose weight," Betty ordered, rolling up the tape measure. "You've gotten very heavy, Tammy."
My jaw dropped. My heart raced. I began to sweat icicles. ...
Even though I had heard about Hollywood's obsession with thinness, I never though I'd be seeing the issue face-to-face --- especially at size 4.
So instead of dutifully striving to meet those unrealistic standards, I challenged them. I spoke to one of our producers, a woman who was visibly angry. She told me not to lose the weight and to forget Betty's remarks. Betty didn't come back after the first season. I got support. It was so great."

DO YOUR PART FOR FREEDOM!

The UK Government wishes to pass a law to prohibit discrimination in the provision of goods, services and facilities on the grounds of sexual orientation .

Which seems quite fair, I mean, after all, why should anyone be refused service because of their sexuality? That would be just as bad as racism.

However, the Catholic church is trying to bully the state about the new anti-discrimination laws.
The Catholic Church are saying if the government passes this law they'll shut down their orphanages.

So, they'd rather children and babies were homeless than living with a gay couple.(Bizzarely, they will let single straight people, and single gay people adopt,
just not gay couples)

Yeah, so, making kids homeless, thats REALLY Christian

Its like, they hate homosexuals more than they care about the welfare of babies and children.

they've got a petition on the Downing Street website with 8000 signatures

But you can do your part for freedom by signing this counter-petition http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/GSFRegs/

If the government doesn't pass this bill then they are saying that the Catholic church is above the law.

The Simpsons!

This is a clip from one of my favourite simpson episodes; Homer's Phobia. Its when Homer takes Bart to a steel mill in an attempt to make him 'straight' but is confronted with a mill full of flamboyantly gay workers...oh homer, he makes me chuckle.

New Buffy Season Eight!

Whoah. Is that not the ultimate in gothicky magical Willowsex? But even more exciting that everyone's favourite gay witch in a backless black dress is the fact that there is going to be a Buffy season eight!

Well, sort of.

It's gonna be in comicbook form. But if you've ever read any of the Buffy graphic novels, you'll know that thats not a bad thing.

The Spike&Dru and Willow&Tara collections managed to show us a side of the well-loved characters that the show never got to, the untold histories and private lives that fanfiction writers have been creating for years. So hopefully we can look forward to a Buffy thats just as witty, just as action-packed, and even more fan-friendly and indepth as the original show!

For those who thought it was all over when Sunnydale disappeared into a massive hole, thats damn good news!

Lily Allen

Just a couple of pictures from a Lily Allen gig that I went to a few months back.I put them up because I wanted everyone to see the amazing dress that she's wearing!

This photo also shows off her amazing eye make-up! It's as if her eyelids are encrusted with jewels...

And here's the keyboardist from New Young Pony Club that I developed a girl-crush on.

Gravitation!

There are ten reasons why I am putting this up:

One: I'd rather watch youtube than work.

Two: I'm a sad slash freak who gets off on the Yaoi.

Three: I'm never gonna be able to afford Gravi on dvd, so I shall have to make to with the manga and fan-vids...

Four: Its the boys! In full colour! (see above)

Five: Songs about quasi-abusive relationships can be sexy.

Six: The split second shot of Hiro looking up from his yoghurt, to the lyrics "I toss and turn/I can't sleep at night".SEXY.Adds homoerotic undertones to the homoerotic overtones.

Seven: "Don't touch me please" as Yuki backs Shuichi into the corner...brings back all the confusion and frustration from the early tracks.

Eight: Bad Luck on stage! I must search around for that site where you can buy Bad Luck and Nittle Grasper t-shirts...

Nine: I need to get RJ to read the damn books so we can fangirl together. As of now, fangirl can officially be a noun and a verb.See "slag/to slag" and "scout/to be scouted".

Ten: I can't think of a tenth reason, but cummon, this video is great!

L Word Season Four Promos: Out of formalwear! Round Quatre

And now, the best for last: Yet more new blonde characters. The lady in the first photo is apparently called Phyllis, and looks quite Power-Lesbian-y, perhaps a foil for Bette?

The woman in the second two is credited as Jodi, yet she looks suspiciously similar as the woman credited as Marlee posing with Bette here: http://allthatsbestofdarkandbright.blogspot.com/2006/12/more-l-word-promos.html If anyone could shed some light on this it would be appreciated.Maybe I'm getting characters and actresses' names mixed up?

And last but not least, two rather sweet pics of our Shane, looking quite upbeat, which is good.

L Word Season Four Promos: Out of formalwear! Round Trois

Some very uncharacteristic photos now, Alice in an ugly shirt, and Helena looking quite adorable! Flame me at will.

L Word Season Four Promos: Out of formalwear! Round Deux

Just realised I still have fourteen shiny new promo shots to share, so theres gonna be a hell of a lot more posts, as for some reason I can only put five up at once.

Okay, so here we have Tina with a very fixed smile...maybe Helena just told a joke.

Ooh, Bette's got a wine-glass, could she have fallen off the wagon again, a la her Season Two breakdown?

Oh, and one of Jenny looking quite sweet, which she usually does.As long as she doesn't open her mouth, and speak, like, actual words.

L Word Season Four Promos: Out of formalwear!

Now, this is gonna excite a lot of people, Dark And Bright has L Word Season Four promo shots with...Karina Lombard! Marina's back!

Hmm, and I'd like to apologise for my earlier post when I stated that Alice's new butch squeeze was called Papi.It seems that the Asian girl here is called Papi, making Alice's new love interest Tasha (bottom picture).Possibly...

Yet more L Word-related stuff!

Just re-found this forum discussion, "You know you watch too much L Word when.." http://www.queeryouth.org.uk/community/index.php?act=ST&f=86&t=12139&s=15ba78c5ab967c0254768717d15a9a75

More L Word promos!

Helena Peabody! *Boo! Hiss!*

Hey, I'm not being cruel, it's panto season!

But seriously, Helena could have been great, she's brunette, British, and has a sexy upper-class accent. If only she wasn't such a control-freak ego-maniac...

Lovely frock though.

Shane. Looking like a rock star. No, looking edible.Ooh,look, you can see she's wearing white pants. Hugo Boss, methinks?

Hmm, now this pic is intriguing, Bette, with two new characters who are apparently called Marlee (left) and Cybil (right). Hell, for all I know they could have been in the show a year already. I need Season Three.

Now, this pic I'm quite excited about.Apparently the new chick is called Papi, she's Alice's new love interest, and aside from looking stunning in that photo, she's set to become the show's first butch character, apparently. Can't say I'm feeling the bitch vibe, but it should be interesting.

L Word Season Four Promos

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Dark And Bright has managed to get hold of some L Word Season Four promo shots! (Although the fact that no-one here has even got to watch Season Three yet due to lack of satelleite does take away some of the excitement.) Aw, but just look at that shot of the full cast, looking very gangster-y and film noir...

Then of course we have the main cast, with Leisha Hailley in some rather fetish footwear. Seriously, can you imagine Alice wearing that? The comedy stumbles would be hilarious.

And as the next picture in that snazzy gold dress goes to show, Alice would be damn sexy, if she wasn't so sweet and funny. As it is, there's an uncomfortable balance between "aww" and "phwoar".

Now that last photo of Miss Hailley with in the interesting grecian-style dress is nice, for Mia is back with Season One hair! And Kate in that silk shirt thing...

And some Beals, for RJ.
